River Revitalisation Strategy – For Public Comment

The Shire of Collie is currently advertising its proposed Collie River Revitalisation Strategy 2023 – 2028.

The proposed Collie River Revitalisation Strategy 2023 – 2028 was presented at Council meeting 10th October 2023 where Council endorsed the Officer recommendation to advertise the draft Strategy for a period of 28 days.

The new Strategy is a review of the Collie River Revitalisation Strategy 2018 – 2022. GFG Consulting, who prepared the initial strategy, were engaged to undertake the review, including:

  • Update on the existing river condition;
  • Assess the current state and management of the river; and
  • Review existing and determine any new recommendations.

The proposed Strategy lists 21 recommendations for the Collie River, particularly near the Collie township. These recommendations demonstrate how to Shire can lead the revitalisation of the Collie River, or advocate to other levels of government where more support is needed. The aim of the Strategy is to improve the health of the Collie River, and the ability for the River to be used for activities.

This proposed Strategy has been informed by two community engagement sessions which were held in February and April 2023 which were attended by community members, elected members and Shire staff. The Shire is particularly grateful for the knowledge that community members contributed during these sessions. Community expertise has been integral to the development of the document, and your input so far has been invaluable.

You can reach out to Collie’s Planning Department on 9734 9028. Submissions to the proposed River Revitalisation Strategy close Wednesday 3rd January 2024. Submissions should be made in writing and must include your name and address. An optional submission form is available below.
