Strategy to guide town planning under review
The Shire of Collie’s Local Planning Strategy is undergoing its scheduled review, with the draft document open for public comment until March 2019.
All members of the community are invited to ask questions or comment on the draft strategy during community consultation sessions being held at Council Chambers at 4.30-6pm on 24 January and 28 February.
The draft strategy contains minor updates to the existing 2009 document to take into account development since the publication of the previous strategy and measures to encourage economic diversification.
The draft planning strategy sets out a 15-year planning vision for the Shire according to state plans and regulations and will be used to guide future re-zoning.
The draft strategy nominates the future use of land in the shire for homes, commercial, industrial, tourism and rural, earmarking land for future growth.
The shortage of serviced industrial lots greater than one hectare is addressed in the new strategy, as well as encouraging the growth of tourism by permitting development at selected locations. It supports pedestrian activation of the town’s central business district.
Once adopted, the strategy will be used to develop the draft Local Planning Scheme, which sets out the specific land uses that are permitted in the various zones.
The adoption of the strategy or scheme will have no impact on existing businesses or premises current approvals or uses.
A copy of the strategy is available from the Shire Administration Office or the Collie Public Library or downloaded from www.collie.wa.gov.au.
Submissions should be made in writing and received by the Shire by Friday, 15 March 2019.
