Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement explains how the Shire of Collie (the Shire) collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information when you interact with the Shire, including through our website and online services.

The Shire manages personal information in accordance with the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (effective 1 July 2026), supported by a range of additional recordkeeping and information security practices.

 

Collection and Use of Personal Information

The Shire collects personal information to carry out its business functions, to deliver services and administer a variety of programs for the community.

Personal information may be collected in a variety of means:

  • using online forms, systems and digital services;
  • in correspondence, enquiries, applications, service requests or complaints;
  • during the provision of public internet access, such as library systems and public Wi-Fi
  • in the performance of the Shire’s statutory, regulatory and service delivery functions;

The Shire uses personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, for a Shire business related purpose and when authorised by law.

This includes to communicate with you, respond to requests, deliver services and administer programs, and to meet legislative requirements.

Website Visit Data

When you visit the Shire’s website, visit information is automatically logged for statistical and operational purposes.

This information is used to:

  • monitor website usage and performance
  • improve website design, functionality and content.

Information collected may include:

  • the internet service provider and server used to access the site
  • pages accessed and time spent on the site
  • device type, operating system and browser
  • referring websites or links

The Shire does not attempt to identify individual users’ browsing activity except where authorised or required by law, including where necessary to investigate suspected misuse, unlawful activity.

 

Protection, security and storage

Personal information is stored securely and accessed by authorised personnel for legitimate business purposes.

The Shire maintains physical, technical and administrative controls designed to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

 

Disclosure of personal information

The Shire may disclose personal information in circumstances including:

  • to carry out the purpose or function for which the information was collected, or for a Shire business related secondary purpose;
  • where required to and authorised by law;
  • to protect the safety, rights or property of individuals
  • to reduce or prevent a serious threat to life, health or safety
  • with other government agencies or service providers where authorised

 

Access to personal information

Individuals may request access to, or correction of, their personal information under the Freedom of Information Act 1992.
