Review of Local Laws

The Shire of Collie is undertaking a review of its Local Laws and invites the community to contribute to the review process.

The following Shire of Collie Local Laws are being reviewed:

Activities in Throughfares and Public Places and Trading Local Law 2012

  • Bush Fire Brigades Local Law 2017
  • Cemeteries Local Law 2019
  • Dogs Local Law 2020
  • Extractive Industries Local Law 2015
  • Local Law – Fencing 2013
  • Local Law No. 8 – Health
  • Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law 2012

Local Laws are made under the Local Government Act 1995 and help regulate activities within the Shire of Collie. They provide rules and standards that support community safety, protect public health, manage the use of public spaces and ensure the effective delivery of local government services.

Community input is an important part of the review process. Following the receipt of community submissions, a report will be prepared for presentation to the November 2026 Ordinary Council Meeting. Council will determine whether each Local Law should be repealed, amended, or remain unchanged. If Council determines that a Local Law should be amended, the Shire will commence the amendment process in accordance with section 3.12 of the Local Government Act 1995, which will include further community consultation.

Copies of the Local Laws are available on the Shire of Collie website at Local Laws | Shire of Collie, or may be viewed in person at the Shire of Collie Administration Office, 87 Throssell Street, Collie, or the Collie Public Library, 82 Wittenoom Street, Collie.

Submissions on the review should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, and may be lodged by hand to 87 Throssell Street, Collie, or post to Locked Bag 6225, Collie WA 6225, or by email to colshire@collie.wa.gov.au. Please submit a separate submission for each Local Law on which you wish to comment.

Submissions must be received by 5:00pm Friday 9 October 2026.
