The Goods Shed in Forrest St is set to be a hive of activity on Thursday, 4 July, with two interactive community sessions followed by the launch of the Chamber of Commerce’s business directory and a brand-new online resource for residents, businesses and community organisations.
Join inspirational Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams for a creative discussion at 3pm on ways to bring people together to revitalise the town’s central business district.
Mayor Williams is a former Western Australian of the Year Youth Award recipient and has a wealth of experience in community capacity building, innovation and creative projects.
“I’ve been following Collie’s journey with interest since our community engagement work with the Collie Futures Industry Taskforce,” Mayor Williams said. “I’m looking forward to talking with Collie people again and seeing the changes.”
The discussion will be followed by an interactive session with Dean Cracknell, chief executive officer of the Town Team Movement, a non-profit organisation helping communities work cooperatively to lead positive change at the grass-roots level.
“Town Teams is passionate about helping communities create wins and manage their challenges across WA,” Mr Cracknell said. “I’m looking forward to meeting the Collie people and sparking some creative discussion.”
Shire President Sarah Stanley said the community sessions would be a great opportunity for the Collie community to learn from two very experienced and inspirational community leaders.
“We’ve got some great ideas in our community, but it’s always helpful to bounce ideas off each other as well as people who’ve been there and done that,” Cr Stanley said. “If you’re passionate about Collie and want to get involved in positive change, then come along and get involved!”
Community members are invited to stay on for the launch of the Collie Chamber of Commerce’s business directory launch and Collie Hub at 5.30pm.
The Collie Hub is the result of a collaboration between the Collie Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Collie River Valley Marketing and the Collie Visitor Centre that allows information to be shared across platforms designed for tourists, residents and business owners.
“The Collie Hub is the swiss-army knife of information about anything and everything in Collie,” said Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Bec Woods.
“We’ve been working hard to put all of the information people are used to seeing in our printed directory into the online space, but with more features and functionality.”
